The Fraunhofer IOSB researches and develops photonic materials, components, laser sources and non-linear converters in the wavelength range 1.5-12 µm for industry, research and defense. Our expertise is based on rare earth elements (e.g. erbium, thulium, holmium) and transition metals (chromium) doped active materials and SWIR and MWIR solid state and fiber lasers, as well as OPOs and supercontinuum. We develop kW high-power cw and pulsed 2 µm fiber lasers, components and architectures, pulsed 1.6 µm and 2.1 µm solid state lasers with high pulse energy and directly emitting MWIR fiber lasers, examine optical components for their laser-induced damage threshold and realize integrated robust laser sources for challenging environmental conditions.
